This book provides a historical overview of what the United Church believes and how these beliefs have changed over the decades. It looks at how the Canadian context has shaped these beliefs and the contributions the United Church has made to Canada and the world. It also addresses some of the mistakes the United Church has made, along with its apologies and reparations.

Robert C. Fennell is an ordained United Church minister and Associate Professor of Historical and Systematic Theology at Atlantic School of Theology in Halifax, NS. He is author of The Rule of Faith and Biblical Interpretation: Reform, Resistance, and Renewal.

Adrian Jacobs is Keeper of the Circle at Sandy-Saulteaux Spiritual Centre (SSSC) in Beausejour, the national Indigenous ministry training school of the United Church of Canada. He is Ganosono of the Turtle Clan, Cayuga Nation of the Six Nations Haudenosaunee Community, Grand River Country in Southern Ontario. A lifelong carrier of Indigenous knowledge, he keeps the Red Buffalo Pipe for SSSC.

HyeRan Kim-Cragg is Lydia Gruchy Professor of Pastoral Studies in St. Andrew’s College, Saskatoon. She holds a ThD in Pastoral/Practical Theology from Emmanuel College, Toronto School of Theology, University of Toronto.

Loraine MacKenzie Shepherd is an ordained United Church minister, serving Westworth United Church in Winnipeg. She is also a published author and teaches at various United Church theological schools, including the United Centre for Theological Studies at the University of Winnipeg, Sandy Saulteaux Spiritual Centre in Manitoba, and United Theological College in Montreal.
